Too often, children face early gaps in foundational skills like reading and writing, setting them back on their educational journey. We aim to close these skill gaps while addressing the broader challenges that may derail a young person’s progress, such as struggles at home or a lack of mentorship and support.
We also recognize that opportunity extends beyond academics. Success in life is deeply tied to access to social capital, real-world experiences, and opportunities like internships, apprenticeships, and mentorship. For students who are the first in their families to graduate high school or pursue post-secondary education, these pathways can feel unfamiliar and daunting.

They deliver industry-vetted courses and career support centered on the needs of first-generation and low-income students. Their students train with senior engineers, intern at top companies, and rise together to become the tech leaders of tomorrow.

We have been long-time admirers of Michael Ellison and the remarkable team he has built. Michael is a visionary leader who sees the bridge between post-secondary education and the workforce not as a gap, but as an opportunity for systemic redesign. Under his leadership, CodePath has pioneered a way for students—particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds—to gain cutting-edge skills that keep pace with a rapidly evolving tech sector. The results are industry-leading: CodePath alumni are 8x more likely than their peers to land a tech job at a Fortune 500 company and earn an average of $20,000 more per year than the national average for CS grads. Evan Marwell is a star in the social impact space, known for pairing bold, ambitious ideas with a rare ability to deliver results at a national scale. Having already successfully closed the connectivity gap for millions of classrooms and rural households, Evan and the team at EducationSuperHighway are now tackling a new, crucial frontier: learning poverty. We are inspired by his pivot to literacy and their unique strategy to fund it. By utilizing a forthcoming federal tax credit from the "Big Beautiful Bill," EducationSuperHighway is operating as a scholarship-granting organization to provide students with the tutoring they need to succeed. Evan’s track record gives us total confidence that he can bridge the literacy gap just as effectively as he did the digital one.

The Last Mile Education Fund closes critical gaps in financial and career support for financially vulnerable college students in the “last mile” to graduation in high-demand STEM fields, addressing both economic mobility and the talent crisis in tech and tech-enabled industries.

When we came across the world of the Last Mile Education Fund, we knew we had discovered something unique. So many organizations strive to provide scholarships to help first-generation students get into college, but few focus on the key financial barriers in time that might prevent a young person from completing that degree in his/her final semester(s). We believe this is a low-barrier way to have an outsized impact on thousands of young people over time.

Lenny Learning is focused on developing accessible, evidence-based mental health resources for young people, delivered in ways that resonate with them. Their engaging platform offers tools that help young people understand and manage their mental health, providing lessons on topics like emotional regulation, stress management, and building resilience. We believe that by equipping kids with these tools early, Lenny Learning is making an important contribution to building a generation better prepared to navigate the ups and downs of life.

Quill, a nonprofit organization, has adapted research-based writing instruction into a free, open source digital platform. All of their content is free to use for students and teachers, although they do have a premium model that they sell to schools.
Their activities help students develop their sentence construction and grammar skills and are designed as supplemental writing exercises that students complete over short, 10 to 15 minute sessions at the beginning or end of a class period. Quill offers prompts and exercises and delivers instant feedback to help students write, revise, and revise again until they are able to produce succinct, powerful sentences. -
We’re excited to support Quill, led by Peter Gault and his team, for their clear-eyed focus on the building blocks of writing and comprehension—essential skills that help students make the leap from learning to communicating, from the classroom to the workforce. Rather than treating literacy as a box to check, Quill takes a deeper, more nuanced approach, supporting educators with tools that help students sharpen their writing and critical thinking. We admire their commitment to ensuring that every student can not only read, but write with clarity and purpose—a foundation for lifelong opportunity.

Ann has been a passionate advocate for disabled youth, and we learned about Avalon through a family friend who has a daughter who attends the school. Ann was asked to serve on the Board and has been incredibly impressed with the expertise and passion of the leadership and staff at the school.

UPchieve is a nonprofit on a mission to close the college enrollment gap between low- and high-income students so that all students have an equal opportunity to achieve upward mobility.
Using their app, students can request help and get matched with a live, volunteer coach in under 5 minutes. They cover 20+ different subjects spanning math, science, humanities, college counseling, and everything in between.
